TRE® Tension & Trauma Release Exercises *

Have you ever watched a nature documentary where a lion chases an impala?

The impala runs for its life. Its body floods with adrenaline. Muscles contract. Heart rate spikes. Every system switches into survival mode. If the impala escapes, something fascinating happens.

It doesn’t sit down and “process” what happened. It doesn’t push the experience away.

When it reaches safety, it tremors.

Its legs shake. Its body vibrates. For a few minutes, it discharges the intense stress chemistry that mobilised it to survive. And then — it returns to grazing. No story. No trauma identity.
Just a nervous system completing a cycle.

Humans have the same built-in mechanism. We just tend to override it

What is TRE®?

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®) is a gentle, body-based approach that activates the body’s natural tremor response — a subtle, rhythmic shaking that helps release accumulated stress and muscular holding patterns.

This tremoring response is innate. It’s a reflex that originates deep in the body, often beginning in the legs or pelvis and moving in waves. When supported safely, it allows the nervous system to shift out of chronic contraction and back toward regulation.

TRE® does not require you to retell or relive difficult experiences. It works directly with the physiology of stress.

WHY we need it

Unlike the impala, humans often don’t complete the stress cycle. We brace. We push through. We hold it together. We override exhaustion. We sit with unprocessed tension in our bodies for years.

Over time, that unfinished stress response can show up as: Chronic muscle tightness, Sleep disturbances, Anxiety or hyper-vigilance, Burnout, Digestive issues, Injury patterns and guarding, Feeling “wired but tired”.

TRE® offers the body an opportunity to finish what it started

How It Works

When we experience stress — whether physical, emotional, or ongoing life pressure — the body contracts to protect itself. Over time, those protective patterns can remain “on,” even when the stressor has passed.

TRE® gently activates the body’s natural release mechanism. The tremors typically begin in the legs or pelvis and may move through the body in waves. This allows the nervous system to shift from a state of tension or vigilance into regulation and recovery.

You remain fully conscious and in control throughout the process.

Who Is It For?

TRE® may help with

  • Athletes under high training load

  • People navigating chronic stress

  • Those recovering from injury

  • Perimenopausal women experiencing nervous system sensitivity

  • Anyone feeling disconnected from their body

If you have been living in a constant state of “on,” TRE® may help your system remember how to come back down

What a Session Feels Like

Sessions are paced gently and tailored to your nervous system capacity.

Some people experience subtle vibrations.
Others feel deeper rhythmic shaking.
Some sessions are quiet and contained.

The goal is not intensity — it is safety.

You are guided to notice breath, sensation, and internal cues. We work within your window of tolerance so the body learns that release can happen without overwhelm.
